Spartus P1 Compared: Standard vs Hybrid vs Elongated

Last updated: September 2026

Three PermaGrit shapes at $197.99 — and the cheaper Spartus that outscores all of them.

QUICK ANSWER

Buy the Spartus P1 Standard. It is the best-rated P1 at 8.6, has by far the highest twist weight in the family (7.4), the lowest swing weight (111–115) and the best forgiveness (8.8). The P1 Hybrid (8.5) is the middle shape, and the P1 Elongated (8.3) trades hand speed for reach with a 120–124 swing weight. All three list at $219.99 and cost $197.99 with code PRH at Spartus (10% off), all USAP approved. Before you order, know this: the Spartus Spitfire Elongated scores 8.8 and costs $98.99 with the same code.

All three P1 shapes at a glance

  • P1 Standard — widebody · 8.1–8.5 oz · 111–115 swing weight · 7.4 twist weight · ~2,200 RPM · 8.6 overall · forgiveness 8.8 / maneuverability 8.7.

  • P1 Elongated — elongated · 8.1–8.5 oz · 120–124 swing weight · 6.25 twist weight · ~2,358 RPM · 8.3 overall · forgiveness 8.0 / spin 9.2.
  • Shared across the line: 16mm core, PermaGrit surface, 5.3" handle, USAP approved.

The P1 trade: stability at one end, spin and reach at the other

This family lines up unusually cleanly. As you go Standard → Hybrid → Elongated, twist weight falls from 7.4 to ~6.9 to 6.25, swing weight climbs from 111–115 to 116–119 to 120–124, and measured spin rises from ~2,200 to ~2,350 to ~2,358 RPM.

So the elongated genuinely spins more — about 150 RPM more than the standard, which is a real gap rather than noise. It also swings roughly ten points heavier and twists more than a full point more easily. You are buying spin and reach with hand speed and margin.

The 7.4 twist weight on the Standard deserves calling out on its own. That is among the highest we have recorded on any paddle, and it is why the Standard scores 8.8 forgiveness while the Elongated manages 8.0.

P1 Standard — the best of the three

The Standard is the classic widebody footprint and the best-rated P1 at 8.6. Highest control (8.5), highest forgiveness (8.8), highest maneuverability (8.7), lightest swing. If you want a P1, this is the one to order.

Its one weak spot is spin: ~2,200 RPM and an 8.9 spin score, the lowest in a family whose surface is the selling point. If PermaGrit spin is specifically why you are here, the other two shapes deliver more of it.

P1 Hybrid — spin without the elongated penalty

The Hybrid is the compromise that mostly works: ~2,350 RPM and a 9.1 spin score, close to the elongated, but with a ~6.9 twist weight and 8.5 forgiveness that stay much closer to the Standard.

It swings 116–119, so it is not a fast paddle, but it is the shape to take if you want the grit story without giving up as much stability as the elongated asks for.

P1 Elongated — most spin, least margin

The Elongated has the most spin (9.2, ~2,358 RPM) and the most power (8.5) in the family, plus the reach the shape implies. It also has the lowest scores here for control (8.0), forgiveness (8.0) and maneuverability (7.6), on a 120–124 swing weight.

At 7.6 maneuverability this is a slow paddle in a hands battle. Buy it for singles and baseline play, not for kitchen exchanges.

Before you order: the Spitfire outscores every P1 at half the price

We would rather tell you this than have you find out after paying. The Spartus Spitfire Elongated scores 8.8 — higher than any P1 — spins at ~2,350 RPM, is USAP approved, and lists at $109.99, which is $98.99 with the same PRH code. It is one of the strongest spin-per-dollar paddles in the 2026 value class.

The honest case for a P1 over the Spitfire is shape: the Spitfire is elongated only, so if you want a widebody or hybrid footprint with Spartus grit, the P1 Standard or Hybrid is the way to get it. If you were going to buy the P1 Elongated, buy the Spitfire instead and keep $99.
