The Tier 1 Recruit is a light 16mm paddle at 8.1 oz in a wide/fan shape (16" by 7.5" to 8").
We played it and like it a lot: it is quick in the hands, forgiving across a big face and easy to control at the kitchen. The injected foam perimeter keeps off-center hits stable, and the octagon on the face shows you where you are making contact. It is $129, or $116.10 with code PRH at tier1pickleball.com. Tier 1 calls it the best value on the market, built to compete with paddles that cost more than twice as much. Tier 1 Pickleball was co-founded by a veteran and his brother, an active-duty Green Beret. A portion of every sale goes to veteran and first responder causes, built into how the company runs, not a tagline. We love that.

How It Plays
Maneuverability leads this one.
On-Court Feel
The Recruit is light and quick. Hands battles at the kitchen feel easy, resets and dinks are simple to control, and the wide face gives you a generous sweet spot. The foam-injected edge keeps the paddle stable when you catch the ball off-center, so it stays forgiving in fast exchanges. It still has enough pop to put away a high ball, and the balance makes it comfortable through long sessions.
Performance & Testing
The Tier 1 Recruit went through our standard on-court protocol - drills, rec play, and at least one tournament match. How it plays reflects consensus feedback from the group, not a single reviewer's opinion.
Grit & Durability
The injected foam perimeter adds stability at the edges. Tier 1 has not published a spin durability test for the Recruit yet.
Who It's For
Players who want a light, maneuverable, forgiving paddle without paying premium prices: newer players moving up, and doubles players who live at the kitchen. And anyone who likes knowing their purchase supports veterans and first responders.
- Spin comes first for you. The Vatic Pro V-Sol Tour Bloom 16mm is stronger there ($99.99 with PRH).
