Swing Weight vs Static Weight vs Twist Weight: What Actually Matters
Swing weight is how heavy a paddle feels in motion, and it matters more than static weight: two 7.8 oz paddles can swing very differently. Around 96–108 feels quick (Friday Aura Pro Widebody ~107, RPM Q2 Widebody 107), 110–114 is the all-court middle (Volair CMD 111, Honolulu J2CR Crystal Blue 110–114), and 115 and up adds plow-through for drives and singles (Enhance MPP Turbo Elongated 116–120). Twist weight is forgiveness: around 7.0 and up is very stable.

Swing weight matters more than static weight
Static weight is what a scale reads. Swing weight is how heavy the paddle feels when you move it, and it depends on where the mass sits. A head-heavy paddle swings heavier than a handle-heavy paddle of the same static weight.
Every number below comes from our own testing.
Swing weight tiers (September 2026)
- Very light (under 107): Pickle Poppers POP N Pink 96.1, Ronbus Quanta R4 104, Volair SHIFT Widebody 106, Friday Aura Widebody ~106.5. Quick hands, less plow-through.
- Light (107–110): Friday Aura Pro Widebody ~107, RPM Q2 Widebody 107, Luzz Glider 2026 108, Enhance EPP and MPP Turbo Widebody 108–112. Most doubles players land here.

Twist weight is forgiveness
Twist weight measures how much the paddle resists turning on off-center hits. Higher means mishits stay steadier.
- About 7.0 and up, very stable: Enhance MPP Turbo Widebody 7.2+, Volair SHIFT Widebody 7.2, Honolulu J2CR Crystal Blue 7.0, Honolulu J2NF 7.0, Enhance EPP Turbo Widebody 7.0+.
- 6.5 to 6.9, stable: RPM Q2 Widebody 6.9, Bread & Butter Loco 6.8, Friday Aura Pro Widebody ~6.8, 11SIX24 Vapor Power 2 6.7, Cyclotron Alea 001 6.6.
- Under 6.5, less forgiving: Volair CMD 6.4, V-SOL Pro Flash 6.4, Luzz Glider 6.4, RPM Q2 Elongated 6.1, Engage X2 Elongated 6.0, Ronbus Quanta R4 5.9. Elongated shapes usually sit here.
How to choose
- New players, doubles at the kitchen, or anyone who wants less arm effort: a light swing (about 107–110) with a twist weight near 7.0. RPM Q2 Widebody ($212.49 with PRH), Friday Aura Pro Widebody ($159 with PRH), Enhance EPP Turbo Widebody ($99.99 with PRH).
- All-court players: the middle tier. Volair CMD ($161.99 with PRH) or Honolulu J2CR Crystal Blue ($175 with PRH).
- Singles, drives and serves: the heavy tier. Honolulu J6CR Crystal Blue ($175 with PRH) or Enhance MPP Turbo Elongated ($99.99 with PRH).
Adding lead tape
- Tape at 3 and 9 o'clock raises twist weight and a little swing weight: more stability on off-center hits.
- Tape at 12 o'clock raises swing weight the most: more plow-through, slower hands.
- Start with a gram or two per side, play a session, then adjust. Small changes are easy to feel.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is swing weight and why does it matter more than static weight?
Swing weight measures how heavy a paddle feels when you swing it; static weight is what a scale reads. Where the mass sits changes swing weight, so two paddles with the same static weight can feel very different.
What swing weight should I use?
About 107–110 for quick hands and doubles at the kitchen (RPM Q2 Widebody, Friday Aura Pro Widebody), 110–114 for all-court play (Volair CMD, Honolulu J2CR Crystal Blue), and 115 and up for drives and singles (Honolulu J6CR, Enhance MPP Turbo Elongated).
How do I increase twist weight?
Add lead tape at 3 and 9 o'clock. Start small, a gram or two per side, and adjust after playing.
