How they play
X2 is the quad-density foam we already trust — plush, expensive, our top Engage score. Axiom is Gen 3-style polymer with dual foam walls and the Armor Grit pitch. It should feel livelier and less pillow than X2. We do not have a full independent swing-weight page on Axiom yet, so we are not pretending it is a lighter X2.
If the only reason you are at Engage is grit life, Axiom is the honest $180 answer. If the reason is “I want that X2 foam,” pay for X2.
Who should buy which
Axiom: players replacing peel-ply every season, or anyone who likes Engage warranty/certs but will not spend $234. Widebody Axiom for kitchen-first doubles.
X2 Elongated: all-court and mixed players who already decided on flagship foam. X2 Widebody if you already know you want that twist-weight kitchen paddle.
Bottom line
Pay $180 for grit (Axiom) or $234 for foam (X2). Do not split the difference by buying X2 Pro unless you specifically want that 124 swing-weight truck.
