Luzz Glider vs Spartus Spitfire: Both 8.8, $2 Apart

Last updated: September 2026

A dead tie on our card — so the tiebreaker is entirely how you win points.

QUICK ANSWER

These two score identically at 8.8 and cost within $2.16 of each other, so there is no better paddle here — only a better fit. Buy the Luzz Glider 2026 if you win points at the kitchen: it is the control hybrid, with 9.0 control, the fastest hands in this comparison at 9.3 maneuverability, and a 108 swing weight. Buy the Spartus Spitfire if you win points with spin and pace from the back: 9.5 spin — the highest spin score in our whole database — 8.5 power against the Glider's 7.8, and elongated reach. The Glider is $101.15 with code PRH and the Spitfire is $98.99 with code PRH. One tiebreaker if you compete: the Glider is USAP and UPA-A approved, the Spitfire is USAP only.

A genuine tie, which is rare

We score 121 paddles and it is unusual for two to land on exactly the same number from opposite directions. The Luzz Glider 2026 Hybrid and the Spartus Spitfire Elongated both come out at 8.8 overall, and with codes applied they are $2.16 apart.

That means the usual shortcut — buy the higher-scoring one — is unavailable, and you have to decide on playing style. Fortunately the two paddles are about as cleanly opposed as two paddles at this price get.

Where the 8.8s come from

  • Luzz Glider 2026 — hybrid · 7.83 oz · SW 108 · TW 6.4 · ~2,295 RPM · 7.8 power, 9.0 control, 9.0 spin, 7.5 pop, 8.5 forgiveness, 9.3 maneuverability · USAP and UPA-A · $101.15 with PRH.
  • Spartus Spitfire — elongated · ~7.7 oz · SW ~115 · TW ~6.2 · ~2,350 RPM · 8.5 power, 7.9 control, 9.5 spin, 8.1 pop, 8.7 forgiveness, 8.5 maneuverability · USAP only · $98.99 with PRH.
  • The trade in one line: the Glider gives up 0.7 power and 0.5 spin; the Spitfire gives up 1.1 control and 0.8 hand speed.

The Glider is the kitchen paddle

A 108 swing weight is genuinely fast — among the quickest hybrids at any price — and it pairs with a neutral balance, so you are not fighting the head during a hands battle. That is where the 9.3 maneuverability comes from, the best number either paddle posts.

The 8mm PP honeycomb core with structural reinforcement plays softer than the Spitfire's foam. The ball sits on the face rather than leaving it, which is why control reads 9.0 against 7.9 — drops, dinks and resets are easier to aim and easier to shape. The 984-Aero face still bites hard at ~2,295 RPM, so you are not trading spin away to get that.

The bill: 7.8 power and 7.5 pop, the lowest numbers in this comparison. The Glider expects you to supply the pace. If you have ever wished a paddle hit harder for you, this is not it.

The Spitfire is the spin paddle

9.5 spin is the highest spin score in our database. The PermaGritNano face measures ~2,350 RPM and, more to the point, it grabs on intentional brush in a way that shows up on roll dinks and dipping thirds rather than just on a test rig.

It is also the more forgiving of the two — 8.7 against 8.5 — which surprises people, because elongated paddles usually are not. Its low static weight (~7.7 oz) keeps it manageable despite the shape, and the head-forward balance means drives carry momentum the Glider cannot generate. That is the 8.5 power.

The bill here: 7.9 control, and hands that are 0.8 slower. The Spitfire's balance sits well toward the head, so blocks are a prep shot rather than a last-second flick. If you have ever put a paddle down because it felt slow at the kitchen, note that carefully.

Reach, and the shape question underneath all of it

The Glider is a hybrid with a 5.5" handle. The Spitfire is elongated with a 5.5" handle and the reach that comes with the outline — better on serves, better stretching for a wide ball, better in singles.

If you already know which shape you play, that alone decides this, and you can stop reading. Shape preference is stickier than any 0.1 on a scorecard, and neither of these paddles is trying to convert you.

If you genuinely do not know: the hybrid Glider is the more forgiving shape to learn on and the easier paddle to play well straight out of the box. The Spitfire rewards a game you already have.

The tiebreakers, if you still need one

  • Certification — the Glider is USAP and UPA-A; the Spitfire is USAP only. If you play UPA-A events, that settles it.
  • Price — Spitfire $98.99, Glider $101.15. A $2.16 gap, which is not a reason for anything.
  • Spin — Spitfire, 9.5 against 9.0, the biggest single gap on the card apart from control.
  • Hand speed — Glider, 9.3 against 8.5, a 108 swing weight against ~115.
  • Off-centre misses — Spitfire, 8.7 forgiveness against 8.5, narrowly.
  • Grit longevity — neither is settled. 984-Aero and PermaGritNano are both new, and we flag both as still needing extended play data.

Final verdict

There is no wrong answer here, which is the useful thing to know before you spend $100. Both paddles are 8.8, both are USAP legal, both spin well, and both are among the best value in the sub-$110 class.

Pick the Glider if the phrase that describes your game is "placement". Pick the Spitfire if it is "pace". If you are still torn after that, take the Spitfire — 9.5 spin is a bigger edge over the field than 9.0 control is, and spin is the harder thing to add to your game later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Luzz Glider or Spartus Spitfire — which is better?

Neither. Both score 8.8 overall in our testing and they cost within $2.16 of each other. The Glider is the control hybrid — 9.0 control, 9.3 maneuverability, 108 swing weight — and the Spitfire is the spin-and-power elongated, with a 9.5 spin score (the highest in our database) and 8.5 power. Pick on playing style, not on score.

Which spins more, the Luzz Glider or the Spartus Spitfire?

The Spitfire, clearly. It scores 9.5 for spin against the Glider's 9.0, from roughly 2,350 RPM against roughly 2,295. That 9.5 is the highest spin score of any paddle we have tested.

Which is better for doubles?

The Luzz Glider, if your points are won at the kitchen. Its 108 swing weight and 9.3 maneuverability make it the faster paddle in a hands battle, and 9.0 control makes resets easier to place. The Spitfire's head-forward balance and ~115 swing weight mean blocks need earlier preparation.

How much do the Luzz Glider and Spartus Spitfire cost?

The Glider 2026 is $119 list and $101.15 with code PRH (15% off at Luzz). The Spitfire is $109.99 list and $98.99 with code PRH (10% off at Spartus). A $2.16 difference — not enough to decide on.

Are both paddles tournament approved?

Both are USAP approved. The Luzz Glider 2026 is also UPA-A approved; the Spartus Spitfire is USAP only in our notes. If you play under UPA-A rules, the Glider is the paddle here that covers both. Check the current list before any sanctioned event.
