USAP Spin Rate Test (October 1, 2026): Your Paddle Is Not Getting Banned
Last updated: September 2026
2,100 RPM is for new submissions. Already-certified paddles stay on the list.
Starting October 1, 2026, paddles newly submitted to USA Pickleball must measure 2,100 RPM or less on USAP's spin-rate test. Paddles already certified stay approved under the rules that were in force when they were listed. The RPM numbers on our review pages are from our own measurement pass — they are not USAP's Image Systems certification test, and a 2,300 on our page does not mean the paddle is illegal. Shop paddles we already reviewed with live codes on /deals.
How we tested
Every paddle we cover goes through the same on-court protocol - individual play, head-to-head comparisons, and tournament use before anything gets written down. Every paddle below has a full review on the site; click through to see scores, specs, and the deal we found for each.

What USA Pickleball actually said
USA Pickleball published the timeline: implementation date October 1, 2026, maximum spin rate 2,100 RPM. Surface roughness and coefficient of friction upper limits become measurements of record instead of pass/fail caps. New submissions after that date have to pass the spin-rate test to get on the USAP list.
Their certification guidance is the part people skip: certified paddles must comply with the standards in effect at the time of certification. If your paddle is already on the Approved Paddle List, October 1 does not yank it. We are not lawyers and we are not USAP. Read the source: USAP spin rate test update.
Our RPM column is not that test
We list spin RPM on reviews because players ask. Those numbers come from our sessions. USAP's SOP uses a dual-camera Image Systems rig and their own instrumented ball. Different machine, different ball, different number. Do not email a director because our page says 2,350 and the cap is 2,100. Those are not the same measurement.
What to buy anyway
If you play USAP events, start with a paddle that currently shows USAP on our specs — Honolulu J2CR (~$175 with PRH) is the Honolulu we send to those brackets. Crystal Blue is UPA-A, not a USAP texture. Budget foam that is already in the wild: Enhance Turbo Widebody at $99.99 with PRH. More on legality: what makes a paddle legal. Codes: /deals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my current paddle be banned on October 1, 2026?
If it is already USA Pickleball certified, USAP says it stays under the old certification. New submissions after October 1 have to pass the 2,100 RPM spin-rate test.
Does 2,100 RPM mean high-spin paddles disappear?
It means new USAP submissions have to pass that lab test. It does not rewrite our review RPM column, and it does not auto-ban paddles already on the list.
