Pickleball Paddle Grip Size Guide: How to Measure and Which Handles Run Small or Large (2026)
Last updated: October 2026
Most paddles list a 4.125 or 4.25 inch grip. How to measure your hand, when to add an overgrip, and which paddles in our catalog run smaller or larger.
Almost every paddle in our catalog lists a grip circumference of 4.125 or 4.25 inches.
Measure from the crease in the middle of your palm to the tip of your ring finger: under about 4.25 inches, start with a 4.125 grip; at 4.25 or more, start with 4.25. When you are between sizes, go smaller and add an overgrip, because you can build a handle up but not down. The smallest grips we list are the Pickle Poppers POP N Pink (about 4.0 inches, $144.49 with PRH) and the Enhance ArmorGrit line (4.1 inches, $99.99 with PRH).
How we tested
Every paddle we cover goes through the same on-court protocol - individual play, head-to-head comparisons, and tournament use before anything gets written down. Every paddle below has a full review on the site; click through to see scores, specs, and the deal we found for each.

How to measure your grip size
- Ruler method: open your hitting hand, fingers together. Measure from the middle crease of your palm up to the tip of your ring finger. That length in inches is a starting grip circumference.
- Finger test: hold a paddle with your normal grip. You should be able to slide the index finger of your other hand into the gap between your fingertips and the base of your thumb. No gap means the grip is too small. Room to spare means too big.
- Between sizes: go smaller. An overgrip adds a little size and cushion; you cannot remove size from a handle.
Grip circumference in our catalog
These are the circumferences listed for each paddle. Many brands publish only handle length, so a paddle missing from this table may still be a standard 4.125 or 4.25 inch grip.

Handle length is a separate number
Grip size is how thick the handle is. Handle length is how long it is. A longer handle gives room for a two-handed backhand and moves your hand farther from the head, which makes the paddle feel more head-heavy.
- Short, 5.0 to 5.3 in: RPM Diesel 5.0, Spartus Spitfire Widebody 5.3, Vatic Tour Bloom 5.3, Enhance ArmorGrit Widebody 5.3, Loco 2 Hybrid 5.3. Most are widebodies built for one-handed doubles play.
- Standard, 5.5 in: the most common length, including Honolulu J2CR Crystal Blue, RPM Q2, Friday Aura Pro and Luzz Glider 2026.
- Long, 5.75 to 6 in: Honolulu J6CR Crystal Blue and J3CR 6.0, 11SIX24 Hurache Jelly Bean 2 6.0, Enhance Hybrid LH 5.9, 11SIX24 Ultre Power 2 5.75, Aireo Cyclone 5.75. See best long-handle paddles.
Overgrips: when and how many
An overgrip is a thin wrap over the stock grip. It adds a little thickness, absorbs sweat and refreshes a worn handle. One overgrip is the standard fix when a handle feels slightly small. Two is common for larger hands on a 4.125 handle. If you need more than two, buy a paddle with a 4.25 inch grip instead.
Too large a grip makes it harder to change grips quickly at the kitchen and can tire your forearm. Too small a grip makes you squeeze harder, which some players feel in the elbow. If your arm is sore, start there. See our picks for tennis elbow.

- Medium hands: any 4.125 inch grip, such as the Spartus Spitfire Elongated at $98.99 with PRH.
- Large hands: a 4.25 inch grip such as the Friday Aura Widebody ($119 with PRH) or Engage X2 Elongated ($234 with PRH), plus an overgrip if needed.
