Most Durable Pickleball Paddle Grit: HexGrit vs Crystal Blue vs Space Dust vs SICmatrix vs PermaGrit (2026)
Last updated: October 2026
Every brand's named grit surface, its spin durability tier from independent lab testing, and the paddles to buy with codes.
The grit surfaces that lost under 5% of their spin in independent lab testing (spin durability Tier 1) are 11SIX24 HexGrit (every Power 2 and Jelly Bean 2 paddle, plus the Volair CMD Hybrid), Honolulu Crystal Blue Endurance Surface (J2CR, J3CR and J6CR), Bread & Butter Space Dust grit (Loco 2 Hybrid and Elongated), RPM SICmatrix (Jade Elongated 16mm), Spartus PermaGrit (P1 Hybrid and Standard), Six Zero DiamondGrit (Coral Pro) and the silicon carbide grit on the Luzz Cannon XPP. HexGrit vs Crystal Blue is a tie on durability; Crystal Blue tested a little higher on spin (2,407 to 2,424 RPM against 2,306 to 2,418) and costs $175.50 with code PRH. Space Dust vs HexGrit is also a tie at Tier 1. Enhance ArmorGrit tested Tier 4 on the elongated, and Vatic Evergrit tested Tier 3 across the V-Sol Tour line.

Which pickleball paddle grit lasts longest
Seven grit surfaces in our catalog reached spin durability Tier 1 in independent lab testing: HexGrit, Crystal Blue, Space Dust, SICmatrix, PermaGrit, DiamondGrit and the Luzz Cannon XPP's silicon carbide grit. Inside Tier 1 the lab does not rank one surface above another, so pick on shape, feel, approval and price.
The surface is what changes the result. Honolulu's standard J6CR, J2NF and J2FC+ are Tier 4, while the same shapes with Crystal Blue are Tier 1. The original Bread & Butter Loco is Tier 4 and the Loco 2 with Space Dust is Tier 1. RPM's Q2 is Tier 4 and the SICmatrix Jade is Tier 1. A grit name alone is not proof, though: ArmorGrit and Evergrit both tested below Tier 1.
What the spin durability tiers mean
- Tier 1: under 5% spin loss. The face barely fades.
- Tier 2: 5% to 9.9% loss. Holds its texture with a small, gradual drop.
- Tier 3: 10% to 19.9% loss. A noticeable drop in spin over time.
- Tier 4: 20% or more loss. The face loses a fifth or more of its bite.
- In the independent lab test, spin is measured with a ball cannon, the face takes a standard run of high-speed impacts, and spin is measured again. Only exact models are listed; a colorway, thickness or shape that was not tested has no tier on our site. Full method: spin durability tiers explained.

11SIX24 HexGrit: Tier 1 on every Power 2 and Jelly Bean 2
11SIX24 describes HexGrit as silicon carbide embedded in the face material, and says it shows almost no measurable spin loss over time. In the independent lab test all eight Power 2 and Jelly Bean 2 paddles were Tier 1, so the claim holds across both lines.
Power 2 (MPP foam, $199.99 with code PRH): Ultre Power 2 flat-top hybrid 2,384 RPM, Vapor Power 2 curved hybrid 2,312, Pegasus Power 2 widebody 2,321, Hurache-X Power 2 elongated 2,306.
Jelly Bean 2 (softer EMA foam, $159.99 with PRH): Hurache Jelly Bean 2 elongated 2,418 RPM, Vapor Jelly Bean 2 2,389, Ultre Jelly Bean 2 2,354, Pegasus Jelly Bean 2 widebody 2,341. Every 11SIX24 HexGrit paddle is UPA-A only, so it is not for USAP-sanctioned events.
Volair HexGrit: the CMD Hybrid
Volair licenses HexGrit from 11SIX24 and builds the CMD line on T700 carbon with that surface. The Volair CMD Hybrid 16mm is Tier 1 in the independent lab test at 2,375 RPM, and it is $161.99 with code PRH (10% off $179.99), $38 less than an 11SIX24 Power 2. It is UPA-A approved.
The CMD Elongated and CMD Widebody use the same HexGrit face but were not in the lab test, so they have no tier yet.
Honolulu Crystal Blue Endurance Surface (Blue Grit): Tier 1, and the clearest proof the surface matters
Honolulu describes Crystal Blue Endurance Surface, which it also calls Blue Grit, as Blue Crystal media mechanically interlocked into the face for controlled texture and long-term surface durability. All three Crystal Blue paddles were Tier 1 in the independent lab test, and the J2CR's 2,424 RPM is the highest of any HexGrit or Crystal Blue paddle.
J2CR Crystal Blue hybrid 2,424 RPM, J3CR Crystal Blue widebody 2,417, J6CR Crystal Blue elongated 2,407. All are $175.50 with code PRH (10% off $195) and UPA-A approved.
Now the contrast. Honolulu's standard faces without Crystal Blue were Tier 4: the J6CR at 2,232 RPM, the J2NF at 2,221 and the J2FC+ at 2,234. Same brand and the same J6 elongated shape went from 20% or more spin loss to under 5% once Crystal Blue went on. If you play USAP events, the standard J6CR and J2NF are USAP approved; the Crystal Blue paddles are UPA-A.
Bread & Butter Space Dust grit: Loco 2 vs the original Loco
Bread & Butter kept the original Loco's foam core for the Loco 2 and changed the surface to Space Dust grit, which the brand says is built to hold spin longer. (Some shoppers search for it as SpaceGrit; Bread & Butter's name is Space Dust.)
The independent lab test backs that up. The Loco 2 Hybrid was Tier 1 at 2,411 RPM and the Loco 2 Elongated Tier 1 at 2,448. The original Loco Hybrid on raw carbon was Tier 4 at 2,254, and the original Loco Elongated and Standard were Tier 4 too.
Both Loco 2 shapes are $198 with code PRH (10% off $220) and carry USAP and UPA-A approval, which no Tier 1 HexGrit or Crystal Blue paddle has. SpaceGrit vs HexGrit, or Space Dust vs HexGrit: both Tier 1, so the Loco 2 wins on approval and the Volair CMD wins on price.
RPM SICmatrix: Jade vs Q2
RPM calls the Jade's face SICmatrix: fine silicon carbide particles embedded in the epoxy before the face is pressed, so new particles are exposed as the top resin wears. RPM says it keeps generating spin.
In the independent lab test the RPM Jade Elongated 16mm was Tier 1 at 2,563 RPM, the highest spin of any paddle in this article. RPM's Q2 on a standard carbon face was Tier 4: Q2 Elongated 16mm 2,361 RPM and Q2 Widebody 16mm 2,339.
The Jade Elongated is $229.49 with code PRH (15% off $269.99) and USAP approved. The Jade Widebody 16mm and the 14mm Jades use the same SICmatrix face but were not in the lab test, so they have no tier yet. Head to head: Jade vs Crystal Blue.
Spartus PermaGrit: P1 Tier 1, Spitfire Tier 3
Spartus describes PermaGrit as a ceramic-hybrid material applied to the face in the US. The P1 Hybrid (2,271 RPM) and P1 Standard widebody (2,293) were both Tier 1 in the independent lab test. They are $197.99 with code PRH (10% off $219.99) and USAP approved. The P1 Elongated was not tested.
The Spitfire Elongated uses a different surface, PermaGritNano, and was Tier 3 at 2,433 RPM. It still has more spin than any Tier 3 paddle here and costs $98.99 with PRH, so it is the grit paddle to buy under $100 if you accept a 10% to 19.9% spin drop over time. Every Spartus option: best Spartus PermaGrit paddles.
Pickle Poppers MAGMAGRIT and EverGrit: not tested yet
Pickle Poppers' newest surface is MAGMAGRIT, a red textured face on the POP N Rush Elongated. Pickle Poppers says it is engineered for ball bite and was tested at 2,100+ RPM. The POP N Rush is $161.49 with code PRH (15% off $189.99) and USAP approved.
The POP N Pink Widebody EverGrit ($152.99 with PRH) and the POP N Treasure use the surface Pickle Poppers calls EverGrit. None of these paddles was in the independent lab test, so neither MAGMAGRIT nor EverGrit has a tier on our site yet.
Six Zero DiamondGrit: Coral Pro vs Coral
The Coral Pro adds DiamondGrit to Six Zero's Coral. Coral Pro Hybrid (2,316 RPM), Coral Pro Widebody (2,305) and Coral Pro Elongated (2,334) were Tier 1. The raw carbon Coral was Tier 2 (2,176 to 2,190 RPM across its three shapes). Coral Pro is $198 with code PRH10 (UPA-A); Coral is $180 with PRH10 (USAP).
Luzz Cannon XPP: Tier 1 silicon carbide grit
Luzz lists the Cannon XPP M1 16mm face as carbon fiber with green silicon carbide grit. It was Tier 1 at 2,506 RPM, second only to the Jade here, and at $152.15 with code PRH (15% off $179) it is the least expensive Tier 1 grit paddle we list. It is USA Pickleball approved, with UPA-A certification in progress.
Enhance ArmorGrit: Tier 4 on the elongated
The MPP Turbo ArmorGrit Elongated was Tier 4 in the independent lab test at 2,245 RPM, the same tier as the standard MPP Turbo Elongated on raw carbon. ArmorGrit is sold as a durable face, but on the elongated it lost 20% or more of its spin. The hybrid and widebody ArmorGrit were not tested. At $99.99 with PRH it is still a value foam paddle; buy it for the price, not for grit life.
Vatic Evergrit, Aireo, Thrive and Ronbus: Tier 3
- Vatic Pro Evergrit: Vatic says Evergrit holds its texture deep into the paddle's life. The V-Sol Tour line was Tier 3: Tour Flash 2,255 RPM, Tour Elongated 2,246, Tour Bloom 2,278. $99.99 with PRH. The new Tour Flash FT has no tier yet.
- Aireo Cyclone: Cyclone 16mm elongated 2,212 RPM and Cyclone Hybrid 16mm (Nanograph Grit) 2,244, both Tier 3. $170 and $179 with PRH.
- Thrive Ignite Pro: the Ignite Pro Elongated, Hybrid and Elongated Arc were Tier 3. We do not list the Ignite Pro, and the Ignite paddles we do list were not tested.
- Ronbus Tenon: Ronbus lists a NanoBond carbon face. Tenon R1, R2, R3 and R4 were all Tier 3 at 2,201 to 2,246 RPM. $129.99 to $149.99 with code RCPRH.
